Plans for a collaborative research project into the use of structured lipid diglyceride (DAG) saturated fat replacers have been shelved because potential partners could not agree on sharing intellectual property (IP) rights.

The proposed project was to be led by Leatherhead Food International. Chief executive Dr Paul Berryman said: "It came back to the intellectual property: we had a few companies that were mustard keen, but others were saying if this gets off the ground, I wouldn't want my competitors in the loop."

Berryman said the idea might be revisited in the future if the IP objections could be overcome.
