Inulin launch is a healthy development
Orafti has launched Beneo LGI, a new reduced-sugar inulin designed for manufacturers keen to reduce the calorie content and glycaemic response of their products without losing functionality.
Unlike standard inulin, which is 10% soluble, Beneo LGI is 15% soluble. This means it is easier to incorporate into fruit preparations that improve the texture of low-fat yoghurts and dairy drinks. It can also be used as a fat and sugar replacement in no-added sugar or reduced calorie ice creams and chocolates.
Containing just 3% sugar and 1.1kcal per gram, Beneo LGI enables food and drink manufacturers to make "bolder and better" health claims on their products, said Dominic Speleers, executive vice-president of sales and marketing at Orafti Active Food Ingredients.
