Isomaltulose debut for Gadot
Israeli firm Gadot is going head to head with German rival Palatinit with the launch of NRGylose, an isomaltulose bulk sweetener made by fermentation of sucrose.
Isomaltulose contains the same number of calories as sucrose, but is digested more slowly, avoiding the same peaks in blood sugar, said Ronny Hacham, vice president business development and marketing at Gadot. "This makes NRGylose an essential sweetener for diabetics and pre-diabetics. It also has great benefit in sports nutrition. A marathon runner can maintain a constant blood-sugar level more easily with isomaltulose."
As isomaltulose was not readily fermented by bacteria in the mouth, it was also a tooth-friendly option, he said.
